With over 100 hand drawn elements executed as murals, neons animations, uniforms and much more, this brand was certainly a challenge but an absolute pleasure to bring to life! I was brought on board to bring to life the newest collaboration between Celebrity Chef Matt Moran and Solotel. Introducing Little Big House, Southbank’s newest pub, poised on stilts in a 100 year old heritage Queenslander, complete with wraparound verandahs, karaoke room and palms throughout.
This brand had to capture the rich history (built in 1889) and past of the heritage listed house where the pub resides (it was previously everything from a police best to a spaghetti house!) but also convey the fun, young and free future culture of the venue. The solution was to create a custom typeface along with a library of illustrations that could reflect these values. I developed a custom hand drawn logotype which was inspired by hand painted pub and hotel signage of the early 20th century. By then using contemporary compositions and having a dynamic, multiple iteration style brand, the logo is able to feel fresh, energetic and new.
Working alongside interior designer Emma Ross, we were able to create a space that felt like the brand identity was always there, and at the same time be able to surprise and delight everyone who walked through the door. Using a wide range of elements from op shop paintings with brand elements painted over, to neon signs, hand painted floormats, custom murals, the brand was able to become integrated and part of the interior.
